Japanese girls are stupid. Am I sexist?
Many Japanese girls are stupid. It is no doubt they are thought very open about sex from visitors' point of view. Sometimes they even look like they desire to be stared at by men. Decorating themselves too much, wearing girly and short skirts, and purring like a cat are manifestations of such a desire. But why only Japanese women?Some non-Japanese people may say that it's because of stubborn sexism in men's psycology. Others would point out the society are not suited for women's development. They typically criticize Japanese men and try to elucidate a plausible theory that continuous encouragement for women's careers and rights is necessary to achieve a good society for women.
Well, respectfully desagreed.
Before giving a solution, diagnoses are pretty important. Let's take a look at the pathology of the society. What is the reason for this degradation in Japanese women?
1)tradition
2)liberalism
3)education system
I would like to push 2) for the right answer. Why liberalism? Well, the hint is all condensed into the the cartoon magazine shown below.
The cartoon magazine is biweekly, and titled "Shoujo comic". Let's open it.
A "horoscopic swirling game" and "rainbow pen" are attached to the magazine?! Wmmm, the comic magazine must be, say, for 13 to 15 year old girls. So, what's wrong with this? And you turn the pages..
What the hell is it??? The book should be for thirteens to fifteens! It shouldn't be right. And I pick up another cartoon magazine, "Cheese".
Friends are talking about Takashi, but he looks like a PC geek to Madoka. She doesn't think he is hot.

Madoka just doesn't understand why he's asked by girls for fixing PCs in the PC room. "Why do other girls hit on him so much?"

What I'd like to prosecute is the morals of the publishers and us. They shouldn't have right to make a sell to kids with primitive judgement.
The publisher says the magazine "Shoujo comic" sells 300,000 copies biweekly. The statistics indicates in 2004 that the population of 13 to 15 years are 1,800,000. Roughly speaking, 1 of 6 subscribes to it! And consider "Cheese" sells as many. I assume that girls read those magazines in school, too. Of course they would circulate them because I used to do it with "Jump (for boys, including Dragon Ball etc.)" among classmates everyweek at puberty so I don't have to buy them!
Some parents of those school children noticed the publishers' infamy, finally. In Osaka, the municipal government started restricting the sales of those harmful books. But most of parents still don't know the fact and just wonder why their children suddenly become so much sexually aware.
There's so much correlation of the recent spread of teen prostitutions through cell phones to those harmful magazines. I won't have courage to call strangers and have sex out of curiosity let alone I was 15. It is the magazines that drive them to be sex machines. The pic below was so nasty that a right-wing blogger uploaded it and warned the danger of too much "liberalism".
It needs a consideration when plotting to eliminate those magazines because the publishers are just in compliance with market principles; they make what customers want. So now we know that just worshipping the invisible hand of god alone doesn't work well. Sometimes our lust is way above Adam Smith's head, not to mention kids' lust like an animal.
We have to know how to control the aggressive capitalism and wipe out such liberalism out of society. Women originally have a lot of positive potential to become rich, thoughtful, responsible, and active. I want Japanese women to realize there's a lot more in the world than just a girly life with a lacy skirt.
Girls don't have take any responsibility for that. We should be blamed.

You're right. At least they are a girl and boy making out. They are plenty of gays in Japan, though. There's a beach called "gay beach" where you'll see what you've never seen.

I'm very angry at those sexual books, but i'm kind of a person whose south is setting camp while yelling at publishers.
I've noticed these types of manga floating around as well. They glorify the victimization of young girls and, worst of all, make the girls think that it's alright to be treated in such a way. Thankfully, knowing that most manga target the audience's fantasies (which rarely reflect the realities of life), I am inclined to believe that a good majority of Japanese girls are not treated as irrespectable sexual objects by their boyfriends. Sure, Japanese girls may act submissive and all, but (at least from my idealistic point of view) the guys are kind enough to treat them well. Perhaps it is the guys' mellow nature that makes the girls fantasize about being pinned down by an aggressive male, as depicted by the manga. My point is, the themes of sexually abusive manga are disgusting, but I don't think these themes infiltrate most couples' relationships in reality, which is the reason they can only feed into sexual fantasies and will (hopefully) stay as fantasies.
I can't say that liberlism is to blame in any wy, shape or form. Japanese girls are not 'stupid' per se. They are however far more immmature, in terms of common sense, than girls from other countries, like from my main experience the UK. But they also posses the potential to be much harder working.
The reason in my opinon for what is happening, is because of Japan's rigid male population, and girls play up to it to get what they want. But how can you explain something like Japanese girls being Japanese... it's just the way they are... for lots of reasons.
Liberalism isn't exclusive to Japan, yet these specific comics are. How can you justify that it's solely the responsibility of liberalism? This makes no sense. America is probably one of the most countries in the world and is one of the places where feminists are the most active. I believe it is the result of a combination of different sociocultural factors. As for the fact that this remains a fantasy, having lived and worked in Japan for many years, I am afraid it is not the case. I have been told by many girls they were traumatized by what had happened to them in the workplace without ever taking any action against the perpetrators. Abuse included fondling, being asked questions about preferred sexual practices and other pressure to sleep with co-workers.

Just curious...why exactly do you say liberalism is the cause of the stupidity of Japanese girls? Maybe we're just defining the term to mean completely different things. Europe is remarkably liberal, and very open sexually (compared to the puritanical US at least) yet you don't see European women demeaning themselves that way. From an outsider's view, I would say the reason they act the way they do is that innocence and being cute and bubbly is considered attractive in Japan. They are just trying to live up to the standards in that particular culture.

In the case of this article, it is only half correct in identifying the cause. Market liberalism is what led to the birth of this standard of behavior among young Japanese girls. It is a mixture of this, and contradictory non-liberalism in terms of sex being a major taboo topic and suppressed sexual innuendoes among Japanese youths that have caused this all to be possible.

I have been married for 30 years. Back in the day, I dated Asian Women. I ended up marrying an American born Chinese. I am half German and half Japanese. I have blond hair and blue eyes. It seems my father's allegedly recessive genes were not. I have no complaints.
In the 1970s all Asian women were generally composed, thoughtful, and even those who lived in poverty had sophistication. As the years have passed I noticed that Korean and to a slightly lesser extent Chinese women are the same. BUT, something has happened to Japanese girls and they seem quite shallow, flighty, and downright stupid. One might assume it's all an act to attract men but looking into their vacant eyes, you realize there's just nobody home.
As to the cause, I have no idea. But it's clear that Japanese girls as a whole have become nothing more than empty headed Barbie dolls. It's a shame too because they tend to be more often attractive but while it's true that any man will be more prone to look first at a pretty face, it gets boring really fast when they have no brain.

Hey, just because they can't speak or spell well in English doesn't mean they're stupid. Who said you have to know English to be smart? When did native-English speakers gain a monopoly on intelligence? It's all about communication skills, not language speaking skills. Some people might be such good communicators in their own language, or in possible other languages in addition to their own--much more than you probably are in English. And maybe they don't care to learn to speak so much in English--why do they even have to? One must factor in that sometimes, in some cultures, learning English is just not a priority. Their educational system probably has deprioritized English learning in favour of more worthy pursuits. How can you explain major countries like Japan wherein they maintain their hold on the global markets as the 3rd largest economy in the world (and for decades they were 2nd--no a small feat!) DESPITE much of the working force not being able to communicate well in English? Enough said.
